We’re excited to share an update on Padel Tennis at Venue 360 this summer…

In partnership with local company Padel Pass, as mention in a previous newsletter, we’re bringing two brand-new, canopy-covered padel courts to the venue - the first of their kind in Bedfordshire!

What is Padel?

A fun mix of tennis and squash, padel is fast-paced, easy to pick up, and nearly always played in doubles - perfect for friends, families, and competitive players alike.

A Busy Month of Events

It’s been another bustling month for events, with a fantastic variety including birthday celebrations, ticketed DJ nights, wedding receptions, conferences – and even our first prom of the year.

We were especially pleased to host the Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Dinner, welcoming 358 guests, as well as a brilliant conference-turned-social event for David Lloyd staff. The day began with productive sessions in the Riverside and concluded with a fun-filled BBQ and drinks in and around the Balcony Bar.

Every event has been a pleasure to host, and we’re looking forward to equally exciting and busy months ahead!

Exciting Revamp at the Balcony Café Bar

ree

Many of you will be aware of the exciting upgrade taking place at our Balcony Café Bar.

From Monday 14th July, we will be closed for approximately three weeks to allow contractors full access to carry out the works.

We’re eagerly anticipating the transformation and not only is the furniture and décor getting a refresh, our menu is to, just in time for our reopening. Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates and sneak peeks of the progress while we’re closed.

We look forward to welcoming you back to a refreshed and improved space very soon!

Member of the Month

ree

Congratulations to Tayna, who has been named our Member of the Month for July!

Tayna joined us at the beginning of the month and, following a fitness assessment and programme consultation, launched straight into her new fitness routine. She’s truly impressed the team with her dedication, consistently training Monday to Friday, while taking well-earned rest days at the weekend.

Her programme is a balanced mix of weight training and cardio, carefully structured across a five-day schedule.

Well done, Tayna – your commitment is inspiring!

If you’d like to update your own programme, please speak to a member of the team to book in for a fitness assessment and consultation.

Out with the Old – Furniture Available to Members

ree

As part of the revamp of the Balcony Cafe Bar, we’ll be replacing all of our existing furniture to make way for the new. While some items have already been claimed, we’d like to offer our members the opportunity to take any remaining pieces.

If you’re interested, please speak to Cheryl or Joanne by Saturday 12th July.

Please note that all furniture must be collected on Sunday 13th July between 4pm and 5pm. Unfortunately, we’re unable to release any items before this time.

Exercise of the Month: Zotman Curls

Looking to target both your biceps and forearms? Zotman Curls are a fantastic exercise that does just that – and if performed slowly and correctly, you’ll definitely feel the results the next day!

The movement begins like a standard standing bicep curl. Once you reach the top of the curl, rotate your wrists inwards (so your palms face down) and then slowly lower the weights back to the starting position. Repeat the curl by returning to the original grip.

Zotman Curls should be performed more slowly than a typical bicep curl, with a strong focus on control throughout the movement. We recommend using a lighter weight, aiming to feel the burn during the final 3–4 reps of a 3-set, 10-rep workout.

Give it a go – and feel the difference!

How Often Should I train?

ree

This is a common question, but the answer can vary from person to person. It’s important to ease into training gradually—doing too much too soon can lead to fatigue, boredom, or even injury. If you haven’t trained for a while, try following these simple steps to get started:

  • Seek professional advice – Speak to a member of our team to have a personalised programme created for you. It’s FREE, so do it!

  • Start small – Aim to visit the gym 2 to 3 times per week for the first six weeks.

  • Keep workouts manageable – Limit your gym sessions to a maximum of 45 minutes.

  • Focus your resistance training – No more than 5 resistance exercises per session.

  • Cardio in moderation – 20 minutes of cardio is usually sufficient. For some, 10 minutes may be more appropriate.

We often see members begin with great intentions, aiming for five sessions a week. However, this can quickly become unsustainable, with workouts being crammed into fewer sessions and consistency dropping off.

The key is to keep things simple during the first six weeks, build the habit, and then gradually progress your programme.

Remember – consistency beats intensity when you’re just getting started!

July Challenge: How Many Press-Ups Can You Do in 1 Minute?

ree

Think you’ve got what it takes? This month’s challenge is simple: how many press-ups can you complete in one minute?

To take part, your attempt must be witnessed by an instructor, who will demonstrate the correct technique. Each press-up must go down to a right-angle bend at the elbows, followed by a full return to the straight-arm position.

The press-up (or push-up) is one of the most effective—and challenging—bodyweight exercises. It engages multiple muscle groups at once, including the chest, shoulders, triceps, and core.

Press-ups can also be easily modified:

  • Easier: Perform them with knees on the floor.

  • Harder: Keep legs straight and maintain full body tension.

Incorporating bodyweight exercises like press-ups into your routine is a fantastic way to build functional strength—great for everyday movements like climbing stairs or getting up from the floor.

Good luck—and don’t forget to log your score with the team!

June Challenge winners - Hang tough challenge

Well done to Sam who managed to hold out for 1 minute and 17 seconds and Nikki who managed to hold out for 1 minute 25 seconds in the Hang tough challenge for June.

Proud Moment for Venue 360 Tennis Coach Jordan Gazard!

A massive shoutout to Ollie Tarvet, who not only qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon — but has also won his first-round match and then put up a great fight before bowing out against defending champion and no.2 seed Carlos Alcaraz.

This is a particularly special moment also for Venue 360 Tennis Coach Jordan Gazard, who coached Oliver weekly for around five years during his junior development.

Coach Jordan shared his pride:

“Olly was a true competitor even back then. He wouldn’t give you a single point — chased down everything, fought for every shot. Even in the warm-up, a missed shot would bother him. That’s the standard he set for himself. It’s no surprise he’s taken that mindset all the way to men’s tennis — and now to Wimbledon.”

Well done Ollie and Jordan!
