Rob and Ann compete at the Great North Run

Congratulations to Ann and Rob for completing the 13-mile Great North Run in an impressive time of 2 hours and 10 seconds, despite the rainy conditions! Many of you will recognise them as familiar faces in the gym and active participants in our classes. This marks their fourth consecutive Great North Run, and as seasoned marathon and ultra-marathon runners, they both agree that the atmosphere at this event is one of the best, making it one of their most enjoyable experiences.

If you’re interested, the Great North Run takes place in September - plenty of time to start training!

World Sport Arnis World Championships

“Many months ago, we were looking for a venue for our World Championships to be held in Luton. We had checked a few places, but they were not suitable but then I remembered that a few years ago we had done stick fighting at Venue 360, so we went along to check it out. After checking this out we realised that Venue 360 was a suitable venue for the World Championships in September 2024.

After many months of preparation, we finally came closer to our championship and It was about to take place on the Friday the 19th, 20th and 21st September. In total we had six countries taking part: Austria, Luxembourg, Italy, France, Ireland and Great Britain.

On the Friday night we did the first competition which was the forms event. Saturday saw the beginning of a pattern stick tournament for both single padded stick fighting as well as double. It started with the children first before moving onto the cadets. Swiftly after the kids and cadets were finished we moved onto the adults for single sticks sparring. Sunday was full armour single stick and double stick fighting followed on by the award ceremony to give out medals and awards to officials and competitors.

Overall, we had a great World Championships, and this was because we found the right venue in the right area to do this championship. Venue 360 was ideal because of its location to the nearby airport & hotels as well as its easy access with a free car park and with a bar upstairs where you could get teas, coffees, food etc. Just ideal for any organisation taking part in a large event.

If we had another large event in the area, we would host at Venue 360 again! The staff at Venue 360 were helpful from the moment we arrived until the time we left on Sunday night.” John Harvey

Staff Member of the Month

This months Hospitality Staff Member of the Month goes to Lewis! Since starting with us in May Lewis has consistently worked hard and shown dedication to his role. He has taken on the difficult task of setting up for our big and smaller events, always willing to help wherever he can. He has built a good raport with our regulars and been a great addition to our team.

This award comes just in time for Lewis as he now leaves us for a year in Canada following his dreams to travel parts of the world, a bug he has picked from his older sister! He will be working at a ski resort and hotel using the skills he has gained with us to impress the Canadians with our British charm. We wish him all the best in his travels and look forward to his return.

Winner of September challenge

Well done to Said who wins the September Dead Ball challenge, Said managed to throw the 12kg ball a total of 51 times in the 2 minutes allowed. This was a very close challenge with Instructors Raimond and Connor both scoring 51 followed by Ronnie with a really close 50!

October Challenge

Overhead Lunges

The challenge for this month is overhead lunges! This is done with either a 5kg or 10kg plate. Complete as many reps as you can in 2 minutes. Please ask an instructor for a demonstration and so they can time you while you complete the challenge. (Note: Each leg counts as 1 repetition)

Exercise of the Month

Kneeling Shoulder Press

The exercise of the month is a kneeling single arm shoulder press. This exercise predominately works on all of the shoulder joint plus your core stabilizers and hips. This is more challenging than a normal standing shoulder press because you can’t use the momentum from your legs. This will help develop the strength in your hips and core.

Raimond & Dani Complete 10K and 5K runs

Well done to Lifelines instructors, Raimond & Dani, who completed the London Holland Park runs in dreadful weather with driving rain and thunderstorms. These two have only started running recently and are more accustomed to strength training so quite a change! Raimond completed the 10 K in 53 minutes and Dani the 5 K in 32 Minutes, Maybe a half Marathon next for them both?

Boxing Classes

Throughout October we will be encouraging members to attend the Monday evening 6pm and Thursday evening 7pm boxing classes.

We would also like to invite members to bring a friend for free to try these full body workouts and fun classes!

If you’re interested please ask an instructor to book you on or simply book online.

What is the power mode option on the cable?

You may have seen on the cable crossover machines an option to put power on or off. The reason that this exists is to allow you to add resistance to your workout. It is designed to add more resistance on power-focused exercises and target specific muscles during the movement on the equipment. For example, an exercise this can be used and is great for is a cable abdominal twist. As always, ask an instructor if you need any help or advice and we’ll be glad to assist you.

Anything but ‘Bog Standard’!

As part of our continued commitment to enhancing your facilities, we’re excited to announce that the sinks and toilet cubicles in the ground-floor men’s toilets have recently been upgraded.

The newly installed cubicles offer a plush, modern feel, complemented by spacious sinks and stylish taps. While these updates may not have the same wow factor as a brand-new gym or state-of-the-art equipment, we know how important this space is to our members. We’ve already received great feedback on the more refined and upscale environment it now provides!

Please note: There are further painting & lighting works to take place in October.

Jiu Jitsu Internationals

Jiu Jitsu Internationals, Soke Olu Bamgbose, hosted the 11th London Rising event at Venue 360 on 28th September, where very experienced instructors from England, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland and Guernsey were on hand to teach their own style of Jiu Jitsu, Kobudo (Traditional Japanese Weapons) and BJJ, with Germanys instructor bringing his style of Muay Thai, as well as the popular Kyujutsu (Traditional Japanese Martial Art of wielding a bow), there were lots for students to choose from.

Students attending the event could choose which discipline they would like to try, or try them all. Lots of hard work with fantastic techniques being taught. Kyujutsu was popular with people, trying something they have never done before. It was great to see even the most experienced Jiu Jitsu instructors having a go at this art.

Students from all over attended the event and judging by the smiles, everyone enjoyed London Rising.

We would like to thank Georgia Carey for again booking the Venue 360, so we could host this year’s London Rising event. A huge thank you to Cora Dunphy who managed to set everything up and was a star for the whole day.
